Harrisonburg is an independent city in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia in the United States. According to 2008 census the population estimate was 44,015. Harrisonburg is the county seat of Rockingham County[10] and the core city of the Harrisonburg, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area which has a 2008 estimated population of 118,409.Harrisonburg is home to James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University. Harrisonburg, Virginia has seen tremendous population growth recently because of the colleges in town. James Madison University accounts for a lot of the town growth with about 19,000 students. Harrisonburg has great potential for job seekers. It is home to processing centers in a poultry, dairy, and livestock area. Lenders have put together an education program to prevent delinquencies, which fills a much-needed gap in the increasingly complex world of home finance.
Home buyer education classes focus on a variety of money management topics, including all the costs connected with obtaining and owning a home. One lender got together with FANNIE MAE (a government-sponsored loan guarantor) to launch a 3 percent down payment loan which requires participation in this education course. Other lenders have shown a decline in the default rate with five percent loans that are associated with similar education courses.
